Polish (EU) passports pricing
Without considering your specific circumstances, it is difficult to give you an exact price. However, as an indication, lodgment with Polaron will cost you around the price of a plane ticket to Europe (economy!).
The first step in the process is to ensure you are actually eligible so that when your application is lodged with the Polish government, your success is optimised. Your eligibility may be affected by your ancestors renouncing their citizenship, service in a foreign army, holding public office and even the year your grandparents were married. It's a complex area of administrative law in Poland, very much open to interpretation, which needs to be considered very carefully in light of each family's individual circumstances. As part of the eligibility assessment, we analyse your documents, check for discrepancies in vital records (how many Poles have become Elizabeth and Andrew in Australia, when their first names are really Elzbieta and Andrzej!), acquire archival files relevant to the process of confirmation from Australia and other countries, order vital records such as birth and marriage certificates from Poland or other countries such as France, Germany, Italy or Israel and check it against the Polish legislation to ensure that your application is not going to be rejected.
Once we are sure that going through the process is worth your while, we provide you with a fixed written quote. Our prices include translations, filing, registration and application fees, couriers and postage, faxing and photocopying, telephone calls, research, acquisition of archival files, stamp duties and all other out of pocket expenses (excluding notary fees and Apostilles). We handle everything for you from start to finish, and guide you through the entire process, however, it does require a level of interest and engagement from you at the initial information gathering and lodgment stage: the more committed to the process you are, the quicker your confirmation of citizenship comes through! At the end of the process, you will receive your confirmation of citizenship certificate, and a brand new Polish birth certificate (yes, even if you were not born in Poland).
The next step is to apply for the actual passport (both the 10 year and the interim passport options are available at this point). See the Passport section for more information. These fees are not included in our prices because they change from time to time. The Polish passport fee, payable to the Polish consulate directly, is similar to that applicable in Australia (around $200). Applicants need to attend a short interview with the Consul, with passports usually mailed to them in 4-6 months. At this point, applicants need to apply for a PESEL number (national identity number) and submit 2 passport photos (photo requirements are very specific and a bit different to what is required in Australia, please see Sample Photo section for more information). As they are valid for 10 years and are produced in Poland, applicants may be able to apply for an interim passport, issued by the Polish consulate within a week or two, valid for 9 months. And no, applicants do not need to speak Polish to apply!
Whilst lodgment via the Consulate may seem like a cheaper option initially, our experience is that without Polish language skills, knowledge of the Polish law and regulations, it may cost you a lot more than you initially anticipated, not to mention the frustration and delays that commonly occur.
